Scott A. Filler
Chief Executive Officer
Scott brings nearly 20 years of healthcare experience to HealthSouth. A life-long resident of Altoona, Scott is a graduate of Altoona Area High School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in management, with a minor in finance from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and a master’s degree in business administration from Saint Francis University. He has been the hospital’s CEO since 1998.

Rakesh (Rockey) R. P
Medical Director
Dr. Patel has been the hospital’s Medical Director since 1998 and a physician at HealthSouth since 1997. He received his bachelor’s degree in biology at the University of Illinois in 1988. He is a 1992 graduate of the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship from 1992-93 at Olympia Fields Osteopathic Medical Center. His Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency was completed in 1996 at the University of Chicago. He has been board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation since 1997.

Mary Gen Boyles
Director of Nursing
Mary Gen has served as the director of patient care (nursing) services since 1990 and has been an employee of the hospital since 1985. She is a 1971 graduate of Bishop Carroll High School. She received her diploma from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1974. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1976 from Pennsylvania State University. She has been employed in health care for nearly 30 years.

Paula S. Sutton
Director of Clinical Services
Paula has served as director of clinical services at HealthSouth since 2001, and she has been employed by the company since 1997. She is a 1970 graduate of Bishop Carroll High School. In 1974, she received her bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Pittsburgh. She also holds a master’s degree in health science-physical therapy from the University of Indianapolis. She has more than 20 years of health care experience.

Rebecca Y. Winkler
Director of Outpatient Services
Becky has served as the director of outpatient services since 2001 and employee since 1992. She is a 1982 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School. She received her bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation counseling in 1988 from Pennsylvania State University. She has more than 15 years of health care experience.

Cynthia L. Watters
Director of Marketing Operations
Cindy has served as the hospital’s director of marketing operations since 2001 and has been an employee since 1996. She is a 1971 graduate of Cambria Heights High School. She received her associate’s degree in nursing from Mount Aloysius College in 1973. She has nearly 30 years of health care experience.

Christine R. Bowser
Administrative Supervisor
Cris has served as the administrative supervisor since 1998 and employee since 1986. She is a 1982 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School. She received as associate’s degree in specialized business in 1985 from the Altoona School of Commerce. She has 20 years of health care experience.

Darla J. Summerville
Director of Case Management
Darla has been the director of case management since 1997 and a hospital employee since 1985. She is a 1967 graduate of Penn Cambria High School. She received an associate’s degree in nursing from Mount Aloysius in 1985 and a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1995 from Mount Aloysius. She has more than 20 years of health care experience.

Christine Filer
Director of Human Resources
Chris has been the director of human resources since 1998 and employee since 1989. She is a 1981 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School. She received an associate’s degree as a legal assistant from Mount Aloysius in 1983. She received her Human Resources Certificate from the Society of Human Resources Management in 2002. She has nearly 20 years of health care experience.

Brenda Williams, RN
Brain Injury Program Coordinator
Brenda brings 20 years of healthcare experience to HealthSouth.  A 1984 graduate of Altoona Area High School, Brenda received an associate's degree in nursing from Mount Aloysius Collge in 1988 and will graduate with a bachelor's degree in nursing in fall 2009.  Brenda began her nursing career at Altoona Hospital in 1988 and worked there for five years before joining the HealthSouth team.  Her first nine years working at HealthSouth was as a registered nurse.  She then transitioned to her current case manager position in 2002.  She specializes in the brain injury population and has dedicated her life to the care of the brain injured patient.  She has been the hospital's brain injury coordinator since 2003.  She resides in Loretto with her husband and two children.

Hayes Spangler
MOTR/L - Cardiac Program Co-Coordinator
Hayes is a retired First Class Missile Technician Submarines, MT1 (SS) with more than 18 years of decorated service.  He received a master's degree in occupational therapy in 2001 from St. Francis University in Loretto, Penn.  Hayes has worked in all aspects of occupational therapy to include a treating clinical therapist with the outpatient clinics.  In 2008, Hayes was selected as the hospital's Cardiac Program co-coordinator.  He provides significant support to the Cardiac Team to ensure the clinical staff is kept abreast of treatment changes.  Hayes is a motivated patient advocate. A surviving cardiac patient, Hayes has a unique personal understanding of cardiac patients.  Hayes is committed to serving cardiac patient needs as a treating full-time occupational therapist.  Hayes resides in Gallitzin with his wife and two children.

Jennifer Hibbs, PT
Traumatic Brain Injury Team Co-Coordinator

Jennifer has been a physical therapist for more than 16 years, with 13 years of experience in working with people who have survived a traumatic brain injury.  She is a graduate of VanWert High School in Ohio, and holds a bachelor's degree in physical therapy from the University of Toledo and a master's degree in allied medicine from Ohio State University.


Bonnie L. Bashista
Director of Performance Improvement
Bonnie has served as the director of performance improvement since 1988. She is a 1967 graduate of Northern Cambria High School. She received her diploma in nursing from the Clearfield School of Nursing in 1969. She received both a bachelor’s (1996) and master’s degree (1999) in healthcare administration from Southwest University. She has held Certification in Quality Assurance since 1990 and has more than 30 years of health care experience.

Hugh D. Newman III,
Program Medical Director
Dr. Newman has been a Program Medical Director at HealthSouth since 1997. He received his bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from the University of Scranton in 1998. He is a 1993 graduate of the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship from 1993-94 at Long Beach Memorial Hospital. His Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency was completed in 1997 at the University of Chicago.
